How often should your business actually post on social media?

Ask the internet how often to post and you'll get ten different answers. Five times a day. Once a week. Twice on weekdays, never on weekends. It's noise — and it's the wrong question.

The right question is: what can you sustain at a standard your audience respects?

Consistency beats frequency

A business that posts twice a week, every week, will almost always outperform one that posts daily for a month and then vanishes. Algorithms reward reliability. So do people — they start to expect you, and expectation is the first step toward trust.

Pick a cadence you can hold through your busy season, not just your quiet one.

A realistic starting point

For most small and medium businesses, this is a sustainable baseline:

These are starting points, not rules. The platforms your customers actually use should get the most attention. The rest can wait.

Quality is the real constraint

Every post should do at least one job: teach something, show your work, answer a common question, or give people a reason to get in touch. If a post does none of those, it's filler — and filler quietly trains your audience to scroll past you.

It's better to publish three genuinely useful posts a week than seven forgettable ones.

Batch it, don't sprinkle it

The reason most businesses fall behind isn't laziness — it's that posting is a daily decision, and daily decisions get skipped. The fix is to batch: set aside a couple of hours, plan a month of content at once, and schedule it. The daily decision disappears.

That's also exactly where a partner helps. When the planning, design and scheduling sit with someone else, "how often should we post?" stops being a question you have to answer every morning.

The takeaway

Don't chase a number. Choose a cadence you can keep, hold it for ninety days, and watch what your audience responds to. Then adjust. Consistency first, frequency second, perfection never.
